For decades, what wet bulb temperature (at 100% humidity) has been considered the upper limit of human survivability? The wet bulb temperature measures how effectively the body can cool itself through sweat and is calculated by wrapping a thermometer in a wet cloth. High values indicate dangerous, muggy conditions where sweat cannot evaporate. At the point in question, the air is completely saturated and even a healthy person resting in the shade will suffer fatal heatstroke. New lab tests show it is actually lower, near 31C (88F).
